Dr. Nicole Jiam is an otology, neurotology, and skull base surgeon-scientist who is as passionate about restoring perfect hearing as she is about music perception and auditory rehabilitation. Her research expertise focuses on hearing implants, complex sound processing, music perception, personalized treatments and care, and neuroplasticity.
Dr. Jiam is an adjunct faculty member at the University of California - San Francisco and a neurotology and skull base surgery fellow at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Eye and Ear. She received her medical training from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and holds a B.A. in neuroscience with honors and a minor in entrepreneurship & management from Johns Hopkins University. She has authored over 41+ peer-reviewed manuscripts and spoken at 20+ national and international conferences. She is the principal investigator on several university, foundational, and NIH-research training grants.
Dr. Jiam is the past spARO chair of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology (ARO) and on the membership committee for the American Auditory Society. Within the Bay Area, she served as the Vice President of the San Francisco Opera BRAVO! Board of Directors, where she spearheaded educational initiatives on music and science between UCSF and the San Francisco Opera.
With her unique combination of clinical training, passion and expertise in complex sound processing and hearing implants, and her commitment to cutting-edge and personalized medicine, Dr. Nicole Jiam serves as a bridge between different arms of the academic mission, all in service of enhancing the quality of care for all patients and the treatments being offered.
