Hearing Evaluation Adults CEU Courses

This course describes the negative effects that untreated hearing loss can have on healthcare outcomes and the positive impact that interventional audiology can have on a patient’s care. Several examples and suggestions for providing interventional audiology services are discussed. This course is part of a four-course series, Destroying the Box: Innovative Audiologic Care Delivery which highlights the next generation of audiology innovators and their pioneering approaches to meeting unmet audiologic needs in their communities and beyond.

The clinical implementation of WideBand Tympanometry opens up an opportunity for a fresh look at how we provide our basic services. This course will provide information for implementation and interpretation of WideBand Tympanometry into every audiology practice.

Recent reports suggest that 12 to 15% of adults have self-reported hearing difficulties and normal pure tone audiograms. This suggests that the traditional pure tone audiogram is a relatively poor indicator of functional communication difficulties. In this podcast, Lina Zadeh, PhD, discusses how extended-high frequency audiometry, distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) and the Digits-in-Noise (DIN) test can be used clinically to identify hidden hearing loss. She also explores effective management strategies for those identified with this condition.

Chronic diseases are medical conditions of long duration and slow progression. Chronic diseases are caused by a combination of genetic, physiological, environmental, and behavioral factors. They often result in significant activity limitations and participation restrictions and require ongoing medical attention. Although most chronic diseases are not curable, the impact of these chronic diseases can be reduced by medications and personal lifestyle improvement.

In this podcast, Kathy Dowd, AuD, of The Audiology Project, discusses the co-morbidities associated with hearing loss of adults onset and the importance of early identification.

This course will provide a comprehensive overview on hidden hearing loss—characterized by speech-in-noise hearing difficulties that occur even before audiometric thresholds are elevated. Specifically, this course will focus on the impacts of these hearing difficulties, as well as on the search for sensitive, non-invasive biomarkers appropriate for diagnostic purposes, and management interventions to effectively manage these hearing difficulties.

This presentation will describe the complex relationship between behavioral health, emotional health, and hearing loss in older adults. In particular, the relationship between social isolation, loneliness, and hearing loss will be discussed.

This course explains the importance of audiological care for inpatient populations and provides specific instruction regarding how to implement an inpatient audiology program. This course is presented in partnership with the Association of VA Audiologists (AVAA).

This course features selected webinars from the series held in partnership with The Association of VA Audiologists (AVAA). Highlights include expansion of the telehealth program, aural rehabilitation and counseling, interprofessional collaboration, and how to implement an inpatient audiology program.
