Question

How does Find My Phone work with Starkey Livio Edge AI?

Answer

Let's be honest, we have all misplaced our phone at some point and have scrambled around searching frantically for it.  Thankfully, Starkey has introduced another first; a new Voice Command - Find My Phone.  This simple and practical tool allows individuals to use their hearing aids to locate a misplaced phone!

Simply double-tap your Livio Edge AI 2400 or Livio AI 2000/1600 hearing aid (firmware update may be required) and use phrases like "I can't find my phone" or "Where is my phone?"  This will trigger your phone to play a loud ringtone that you listen for and then follow the sound to locate it.  The Find My Phone feature uses the Starkey Thrive Assistant voice command capability.  That means that it has the capability to recognize a number of different ways in which people may ask to locate their phone. We trained the algorithm on the variety of ways people might ask about the location of their phone and we can access this feature and utilize it via however the patient has set up the Thrive Assistant for double-tap or press of the user control on the hearing aids.

The phone does need to be turned on. However, Find My Phone will work even if the phone is asleep and on silent/vibrate! The Thrive app does need to be running in the background.  And, that is a good takeaway about Thrive use in general; users should let Thrive run in the background so makes sure features like Find My Phone or the Fall Alert system will work.  There is no need to shut Thrive down on a regular basis.

To use Find My Phone, we must follow typical Bluetooth rules.  The phone needs to be within range of the hearing aids and of course, paired to them.   Remember that Bluetooth range is about 30 feet. So if the hearing aid wearer left their phone at Starbucks and has gone home, this feature won't apply in that case as the phone does need to be within range of the hearing aids. The Find My Phone ringtone will be shut off after 30 seconds if the phone is not located in that timeframe. But, if needed, the user can simply activate Find My Phone again.

The Find Your Phone feature can be a real helper to the patient who is trying to find their phone as they are heading out the door!
