Question
What is Widex Zen Therapy and how does it help patients with tinnitus?
Answer
Widex Zen Therapy (WZT) is an industry-leading tinnitus management platform that gives clinicians the opportunity to help tinnitus sufferers manage their condition and find relief, rather than “just live with it” as they may have done in the past.
WZT consists of four components (counseling, amplification, sound stimulation via fractal ZEN tones, and stress reduction) that can be tailored to meet each patient’s individual needs. The evidence supporting the efficacy of WZT is strong, as studies of the fractal ZEN tones and WZT relaxation have provided an evidence-based foundation.
The foundation of WZT, ZEN fractal tones are a patented, exclusive source of sound therapy available in all Widex hearing aids. Default settings, based on previous experiments demonstrating their relaxing quality, are available for the various styles of the tones, but they can also be individualized for each individual in pitch, volume, and tempo in the Compass GPS fitting software.
ZEN fractal tones were developed based on the evidence that certain types of music have a relaxing effect on the brain. For instance, one study concluded that ZEN has a significant relaxing nature and that the Zen tones could be used by hearing aid wearers as a way of achieving a higher level of relaxation in their lives.1 In addition to the positive effects on relaxation, study subjects report reduction of stress, tinnitus awareness, and tinnitus annoyance.
